Comparing to 2002, the following changes have been made with this rankings:
1. The academic reputation has been extended to general reputation this
year. In our survey, we ask our respondents to consider factors in their
scoring:
(1) The academic impact of the concerned university in last year;
(2) The quality of undergraduate enrollment in last year, i.e. the university’s
general status among high school students;
(3) The job performance of recent university graduates;
(4) Major news about the university, both positive and negative, last
year
(5) Any important factors the respondents may concern.
This year our survey has been extended to principals of national key
middle schools. We have sent out 998 survey forms, among which: 175 to
fellows of Chinese Academy of Science; 175 to fellows of Chinese Academy
of Engineering Sciences; 100 to fellows of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences;
116 to Professors with Changjiang scholars title; 315 to university presidents;
117 to principals of national key middle schools. We received 368 feedbacks
this year, of which 33 are invalid. The overall feedback ratio is 36.87%.
2. In calculating the “academic resources” indicator, we have used the
per thousand students number to replace aggregate number that was used
in the previous fours years.
